8 Things Christian Believers and Churches Can Do in Light of Recent SCOTUS Ruling on LGBT

1. State Level

• Contact your congressman/senator for available options. Write your governor without hesitation
• Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed a bill allowing clergy to refuse to officiate same sex ceremonies
• Texas Attorney General fights back against Supreme Court
• First Amendment Defense Act Sen. Mike Lee of Utah introduced

2. Personal Level

• Inform yourself and your family of the clear Biblical principles for love and holiness applicable in this situation
• Pray daily for the protection of your family and the salvation of many souls
• Be faithful to your husband/wife and children

3. Corporate Level

• Hold on to your Christian standards for doing business
• Support other Christian businesses
• Forgive and forget, but watch and pray

4. Local Church Level

• Join in corporate fasting and praying in the Spirit
• Uphold the Biblical standard of holy living
• Preach the truth as you have received it
• Adopt local church resolutions on the sanctity of the family

5. Denominational Level

• Adopt resolutions on the sanctity of the family applicable to all your churches internationally (not just North America)
• Adopt resolutions on same-sex marriages, transgender, abortions and all similar issues applicable to all your churches internationally (not just North America)
• Stand along members, ministers, local congregations and Christian schools under attack for upholding the Biblical standard of holy living

6. Christian Alliances Level

• Stay informed of all legal protests and options
• Learn about upcoming IRS changes and alternative exempt options
• Consult with legal council about your rights and obligations under the law
• Join with other Christians in legal measures for upholding the Biblical standard of holy living

7. International Organizational Level

• Beware of what Christian churches are doing internationally to protect their members, ministers, local congregations and Christian schools
• Examine your current tax status and consult your CPA, attorney and insurance agents about the various possibilities to protect your church and ministry

8. Get good insurance with adequate coverage and experience in the matter

San Francisco Nights (2015 update)

Several years ago, while visiting San Francisco on our way to preach at the Bulgarian church in Las Vegas, we were completing our research on Ivan Voronaev’s biography at Berkeley, who studied there after his arrival to the States in the 1912.

While there, we decided to call a high school friend who lives and works in the area. He had moved to the States in 1998 while I was working in D.C. We tried to keep in touch since then, but I had not seen him for years. And with all our travels it had never worked out to cross paths.

So early one morning that same week, we were having coffee at Starbucks near San Rafael. He shared some of his experience as an immigrant, about his family spread thin between here and Bulgaria and about his brother who had just moved for work to Phoenix.

I’ve already written about these events with more detail in “Finding Friends in Phoenix or the Story of an Arizona State Quarter”. In short, this is how the idea for twin Bulgarian churches in San Francisco and Phoenix was born in the spring of 2009.

Today, when this dream of two churches is so close to become a reality, I look at this rather incidental and spontaneous meeting and wonder. If God can bring two old friends to start two new churches, what else does He have stored for us in the future?

8 Simple Rules for Doing Missions in the Spirit

1. Never put a price on the human soul, which you are not willing to put on your own.

2. Unsubscribing from missions’ newsletters may result in unsubscribing from the missional letter of God.

3. By no means raise an offering because a missionary needs it, do so because it’s needed for the survival of the church.

4. Not giving to missions is far better, than committing to give without any intention to do so.

5. Before using a missions’ offering to pay a church bill, think of whose offering a missionary should use to pay their bill.

6. Don’t wait on a missionary to ask you for what God has already commanded you to give.

7. Pray for missionaries without ceasing. For it could be your prayer that saves a soul.

8. Never delay sending a missions offering for tomorrow. After all, it was you who preached that tomorrow may be when the Lord comes back.
